The NC One Water Annual Conference is held for members and non-members involved in the water and wastewater industries. The conference provides education, training, leadership, and networking opportunities through an engagement-first experience featuring continuing education sessions, live competitions, and exhibitors.

From Monday, November 3rd, to Tuesday, November 4th, NC One Water will be hosting an array of competition events for your team to compete in. See below for dates, times, and more information.

Want to learn more about Competitions and how to create your own team to compete for next year? Stop by the Competitions Area for a Competitions Q&A Session on Monday, 5PM - 6PM.

Pipe Tapping

Description: Teams race against the clock to drill into a pressurized water main. It’s a fast-paced display of skill and precision!

Schedule:

  • Monday, 9AM: Check-in at Competitions Area
  • Tuesday, 9AM: Pipe Tapping Preliminaries
  • Tuesday, 1:30 PM: Pipe Tapping Finals

Hydrant Hysteria

Description: Hydrant Hysteria is a timed competition that measures a team’s ability to completely assemble a commonly utilized utility hydrant as quickly and accurately as possible.

Schedule:

  • Monday, 9AM: Check-in at Competitions Area
  • Monday, 9:45AM: Hydrant Hysteria Preliminaries
  • Monday, 2PM: Hydrant Hysteria Finals

Important Notes: 

  • The winner of this event will NOT qualify to compete at ACE 2026 as it appears there will not be an event at that level.
  • McWane and the AWWA have not come to an agreement regarding the continuation of the Hydrant Hysteria competition. The Clow Valve Fire Hydrant will be the competition hydrant this year. Clow Rep: Cody Douglas, cody.douglas@clowvalve.com, 919-600-8699

Meter Madness

Description: Who can assemble a water meter from a bucket of parts the fastest? Cheer on your favorite contestant in this test of speed and accuracy. 

Schedule:

  • Monday, 9AM: Check-in at Competitions Area
  • Monday, 3:15PM: Meter Madness Competition

Important Notes: 

  • AWWA has not released what meters will be used at ACE 2026. If no information is released by the conference, this event will still be held, but the winner of this event will NOT qualify to compete at ACE 2026.

Operations Challenge

Description: The Operations Challenge involves a series of team events that test the skills & knowledge of various wastewater related activities. These events include Collection System, Pump Maintenance, Laboratory Event, Process Control, and Safety. 

Schedule:

  • Monday, 9AM: Check-in at Competitions Area
  • Monday, 12PM: Process Control Event, Safety Event, Lab Event
  • Tuesday, 11:30AM: Pump Maintenance Event, Collection System Event

Hole and Saw Cut Relay Race

Description: In this high-speed relay race, teams compete to demonstrate their precision, speed, and coordination under pressure. Each team member is tasked with completing a crucial step in the hole and saw cutting process.

Race Details

Schedule:

  • Tuesday, 1:30PM: Check-in at Competitions Area
  • Tuesday, 2:30PM: Relay Race

Live Competition Registration for Teams ends October 1st.

If your team is interested in signing up post this deadline, please contact Matt.Hargett@unioncountync.gov. Any teams registering after the deadline are not be eligible to compete at the National level. 

In-state Teams: $50

Out-of-State Teams: Waived

Best Tasting Water Contest

Description: Join us for the 40th Anniversary of this event! Put your system to the test and see if you have the best tasting water in North Carolina. Awards will be given for first, second, and third place. Contest Rules

Schedule:

  • Sunday, 2 - 5 PM: Water Submission Period 
  • Tuesday, 12:30 - 1:30 PM: Best Tasting Water Competition


Student Poster Contest

Description: The Students and Young Professionals Network of NC One Water is proud to host the annual Student Poster Contest. Are you researching water resource or environmental topics? Then join our contest for a chance to win PRIZES and the chance to attend and present at the AWWA ACE26 Conference! Contest Rules
